Working in the second floor

I am working on the layout of the second floor of the Orchid.  Those of you who have seen the Orchid know that the second floor is a nightmare!  The windows and the sloped roof make the layout very dysfunctional, to put it mildly.  I am attempting a false wall that will make a bed-space out of the middle window and will make wall space that is actually perpendicular to the floor under the smaller windows!  I think then I will be much happier with the space.

After looking through Sylvia's blog and seeing how wonderful her little chairs from Lea's tutorial turned out, I attempted my own.  I did not have any staircase spindles, so I made the front legs out of polymer clay.  Needless to say, it is a bit wobbly, but as attempts at miniature-making go, I am quite pleased with it!  Thanks for the inspiration Sylvia!

  2. Your second floor is looking great! I also love the chair and have purchased bristol board in order to try this method...just working up the courage, but you've inspired me as well. Great job!

  3. Polymer clay legs? Brilliant! I made a bed in my Orchid in exactly the same spot. Thanks for your advice on my Beacon. I put a window bed in the same exact location in my Orchid. The knee walls were awkward for me too and I put in a faux dresser that might give you an idea or two if you're interested. It's in one of my early blog posts. Lovely work, as usual :)

  4. Thank you guys! Susanne, I'm posting another picture in a little while:) Cynthia, if you are going try the chair, get a very sharp knife. It was so hard to cut through the bristol board with my exacto or even my razor knife. It took WAY longer than I ever thought it could. Maybe a straight mat cutter would work better. I have an angled on but you have to make straight cuts. Anyhow, best of luck!
Daisy, I saw your faux dresser and it is what gave me the idea for the wall, Thanks again!
